Court reporters are highly trained and important members of the legal community. As a court reporter you can find jobs in business corporations or the entertainment industry. They can also work in courtrooms or become freelancers.
The court reporters can report proceedings of a sensitive congressional hearing report a testimony in a murder trial or give a closed captioning text for a Hollywood feature. The reporter must be trained in the right schools. The course usually takes less than a year to master the steno-typist programs.
The court reporter must also learn to recognize voices and software programs used to capture transcript. All students must report 225 words per minute. This is the requirement given by the government and National Court Reporters association. You must be a good listener and fast in typing. Your English must be excellent with no spelling or grammar errors.
There is a prediction of strong job outlook according to the US Bureau of Labor statistics. There are no many people going in the field and this has led to high demand for the court reporters.
